Project Date: 2010
BDHs PROJECT SOLUTIONS:
BDHS refit the manlocks with mixed gas and oxygen service piping. We expedited this through a combination of above ground and in-place plumbing, avoiding any delays to production. Our team has also provided the prime contractor with solutions to high pressures in difficult soils in the form of mixed gas procedures and equipment.
PROJECT BACKGROUND:
Part of the King County subway expansion program two 22 ft diameter Earth Pressure Balance TBMs will be used to mine 11,300 ft each, side by side to the Capitol Hill station, which will be excavated by another contract. While the TBMs are excavating, contractors will begin mining 16 crosspassages by Sequential Excavation Method from one tunnel to another for emergency egress. Once the tunnels are complete, contractors will pour a concrete invert and sidewalk, and install the permanent wet standpipe and tunnel lighting. The project length is approximately 42 months.
